History of the New Castle

Cesis New Castle is one of the few Latvian castles of the 18th century, which is included in the fortification system of the medieval castle, thus increasing the already attractive and romantic architecture of the centre of the manor. It was built as a residential house for the owners of Cesis manor, the Sievers family, in 1777, when Earl Karl Eberhard von Sievers bought the property from the Baron Karl Adam von Wolf.  Before the World War I, five generations of the Sievers family lived here. The history of New Castle is measured in almost four centuries and the presence of its last owners, the Sievers family, who resided in Cesis for nearly half a century, has left a remarkable impression in the development of the city.
To emphasise the importance of the New Castle and its history, show this as an important and intriguing museum object for visitors and to save its architectural and historical values, there are a lot of research projects that have been made on the New Castle (since 2000) and also during its restoration (since 2007).
