Fund of the museum

The museum has been accruing its collection for 85 years and consists of several specially added collections. These include an extensive collection of archaeological objects for the research into ancient history. The collections of medieval coins, luxurious armour and household commodities form one of the most unique collections- the “treasures” of Cesis Medieval castle, which was compiled by archaeological researchers of the medieval castle. The pride of the museum is the largest collection of historical material of the Latvian national flag, which allows you to discover in detail the creation of the flag. As a result of an expedition organized by the museum, a collection of ethnographical objects, printed materials, documents and photographs about many issues important and relevant to the history of the town, county and region was formed. As a result of the research into the Cesis New Castle and Cesis manor there will be a new collection on the Sievers family, owners of Cesis Castle, confirming the importance of Baltic-German cultural legacy in the history of Cesis and Latvia. An important part of the exhibitions and expositions of the museum is a collection of paintings, which consists of works from the beginning of the 19th century, 20th century and contemporary artists from this district. Particularly to be emphasized is a collection of watercolour works of international importance, which consists of more than 300 accomplishments of artists from many different countries who participated in the 'en plein air' painting event in Cesis. To provide improved accessibility to the museum collections there is a new electronic database which has been created within the system of the main catalogue of the Latvian national museums’ collection.
